Hot Relish with Nuts (Sambal badjak)

1/2 cup ground hot red peppers
1 tsp. shrimp paste
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional use macademian or cashew nuts)
salt to taste
1/2 cup water (not necessary when using the store bought ground pepper in a jar)
1 tbs. brown sugar
3 tbs. vegetable oil

Brown the onion, garlic and shrimp paste, add the ground hot red pepper and all the rest of the ingredients. Fry for 20 minutes stirring constantly, or until all liquid has been absorbed. Stored in the refrigerator in a closed jam jar this can be kept for several weeks.
